Dr Marcelle Wijma has been working as a General Practitioner on the Sunshine Coast since 2008. She completed her General Practice training in the Netherlands in 2001 before moving to Australia with her husband and three children. The family settled on the Sunshine Coast, where Dr Wijma has been an integal part of the local medical community ever since.

Dr Wijma is passionate about all aspects of general practice and enjoys the diversity the field offers — from caring for patients of all ages to building long-term relationships that support continuity of care.

Having completed a Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine, Dr Wijma provides comprehensive skin checks and performs minor skin excisions. She is also a Shared Antenatal Care provider with the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Her interests in women’s health include the insertion and management of intrauterine devices (IUDs) such as Mirena, as well as Implanon contraceptive implants.

Through her part-time work at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Dr Wijma has developed particular expertise in breast cancer follow-up and the management of breast lesions. Several times a year, she also dedicates her skills to working in remote Aboriginal health communities.

Outside of medicine, Dr Wijma enjoys spending time with her family and friends, staying active both outdoors and indoors, and singing as a first soprano in the Oriana Choir.
